Payroll Accountant Hybrid

This is a mostly remote position. New hire will work onsite as needed in West Chester, PA. Compensation is $73,000-75,000 annually.

Job Summary: The Payroll Accountant is a member of the Accounting Department and performs various payroll, accounting and financial tasks, while ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately and in compliance with government regulations.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Initiates, maintains, and reviews bi-weekly payroll processing, off-cycle payments, and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Works closely with HR to resolve payroll discrepancies and issues.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Stays up to date on changes in payroll laws and regulations and implements necessary changes.
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors.
  • Adheres to strict confidentiality protocol in all matters pertaining to fiscal and payroll information.
  • Organizes, prioritize and track multiple action items.
  • Assists with monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting, as needed.
  • Assists in creating schedules and documentation for the annual audit, budget and annual tax filings.
  • Assists with year-end activities such as W-2 filings.
  • Assists in ad hoc financial projects and analysis as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs). To succeed in the Payroll Accountant position, candidates should possess the following KSAs:
    • REQUIRED
      • Experience running payroll in a multi-state, remote environment;
      • Superior attention to detail along with excellent organizational and time-management skills;
      • Ability to balance competing priorities and adapt to the changing needs of the business while meeting deadlines;
      • Computer proficiency, including experience with ADP WorkforceNow payroll software and Microsoft Office.
      • Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes;
      • Collaborative problem-solving skills and the ability to provide logical and creative solutions; and
      • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills.
    • PREFERRED
      • Superior oral and written communications; listens and receives clarifications, responds well to questions, presents numerical data effectively, is able to read and interpret written information.
      • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) a plus.
      • Knowledge of governance, risk and compliance programs and systems, and how to maintain a database with a governance, risk and compliance framework; and
      • Knowledge of risk assessment design and delivery; adherence to internal controls and key metric development, tracking, and reporting.
    • Background Experiences. The following are required unless otherwise noted:
      • BS/BA in Accounting/Finance or similar related field.
      • Minimum 3-5 years of related experience in a similar role.
      • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central preferred.
